i vividly remember watching the first clip of the elder chinese man being bullied and the video
being passed around on social media as entertainment for some ( this is not new, but this was now recorded for the world to see the growing hate) , this was the beginning of pandemic ( early March ?).
my friend @brooke_baldwin (❤️) contacted me and invited me to come on @cnn (see the OG interview on my igtv) to bring awareness to the matter and remind everyone that the Asian communities are not responsible for the Covid-19 virus, which is a health and human virus that affects us all no matter what color, gender, age, race, class, etc.
Since then, the rise of violent attacks targeted at Asian communities has increased 1900%. i know this is a complex and layered issue, one that cannot be fixed overnight or by attacking each other), but at its core-
the silence becomes hate’s greatest ally! and to be frank, no longer will we be silent.
Thank you to everyone for your support and coming out in solidarity. we need to continue see each other, hear each other, heal together, make space for one another and be super vigilant not to let the deep rooted colonial, supremacist, oppression continue to divide us. Lets show them that we can hold multiple truths for all communities at the same time! This will be a long, uncomfortable process, but it is necessary in order to move forward together.
we need to share our stories with each others friends, families, networks so that we can together force out the HATE that is threatening us all.
i am more inspired than ever to stand with you in your fight as well, but right now please help us #StopAsianHate
** please keep sharing and keeping it trending because this is the only way, mainstream media and hearts will change.
