Making of Kerala special Nendran banana chips at home - from my MIL's kitchen😍.
Recipe :

🍟Take 2 raw nendran banana. Trim the edges. Peel the skin and immerse in water till use.
🍟 Mix 1 tsp salt with 1 tsp turmeric powder. Add water and mix well.
🍟 Heat cooking oil or coconut oil. Slice the chips over the hot oil.
🍟 Keep mixing and tossing till bubbles cease by 50%
🍟 Lower the flame. Sprinkle the salt water over the chips and mix well.
🍟 Mix well and cook till bubbles stop completely. Remove and drain the oil.
🍟 Cool down and store in a box. Enjoy.
For best results, choose green colored, hard raw nendran banana. Do not use soft or ripe ones.
You can follow the same procedure for raw banana as well. Turmeric powder is optional for raw banana.

Our Ganesh chaturthi celebration started with the making of eco friendly turmeric, wheat flour pillayar by my daughter Raksha.

Usually we make kozhukattai maavu pillayar / Ganesha using modak dough. I have also shared a video for the same in my YouTube channel.
I have been eyeing on turmeric Ganesha for long time. This year, it happened by God's grace 😊. Please watch Chidambaram kitchen video for making this Ganesha. She has explained it so well 😍.

Dosa with tomato sambar 😍
Tomato sambar recipe:

INGREDIENTS


Ripe Tomato – 2 nos (chopped )

Big onion – 1 no (finely chopped)

Salt & water – as needed

Coriander leaves – to garnish

To grind:

Grated Coconut – 2 tbsp

Ginger - 1/2 inch size

Garlic cloves - 2

Green chilli – 2-4 nos (I used 2)

Fennel seeds/Soambu/Perunjeeragam – 1/2 tsp

To season:

Cooking oil - 1 tbsp

Mustard seeds – 1/2 tsp

Curry leaves – few

Method

Chop and cook the tomatoes adding enough water. Grind all the items given under “to grind “ along with cooked tomatoes adding required water. Make it a paste. Set aside.

Now heat the kadai with a tbsp of oil and season all the items given above. Add the chopped onions and saute till transparent. Add 1/2 cup of water and cook the onions till soft.

Now add the ground tomato masala to it and boil till raw smell leaves it. May take 5 mins.Add water if you make it for idly/dosa. If  you make it for chapathi, add less water and make the gravy thick.

Finally garnish with coriander leaves and serve!! Enjoy !

Note

Adjust the quantity of chilli as per your taste buds.

Here I have not used whole spices like cinnamon, cloves etc. So this sambar tastes mildly spiced with ginger & fennel seeds flavor. If you wish, u can saute the whole spices along with onion for more masala flavor. 

Garnish this sambar with coriander leaves if you have in hand.

Dinner today - Coorg style kadumbuttu / benne kadubu with rice rava, also made few sweet kadubu by coating in coconut pooran and Tomato coriander leaves chutney.

My first attempt came out really well. Super soft and spongy 😍. Actually I bookmarked @smithakalluraya sesame seeds chutney and toor dal
Chutney recipe for side dish but ended up making tomato chutney as I had some leftover coriander leaves thogayal from lunch😉. Surprisingly this chutney is a good combo for this kadubu😊👍.

Didn't have a mundu so dressed up my thali in Gold and White 🌟🤍

This is the first time I am making Onam Sadya and was so glad it turned out well 🙏

We were planning to order homemade Onam Sadya earlier but Sydney came under lockdown 🤷. Since Karthik loved it last year and was looking forward to have some delicious meal this year, didn't want to disappoint him ❤️

Vegetables weren't a problem but couldn't go to the store for pappadam and Ada for pradaman. Yesterday was scrolling through insta where I found @youreverydaycook 's post on homemade pappadam..got super ecstatic; gave up on my nap and made them immediately. Only thing I did was to use roasted urad dal powder, hence the brown colour. However, it tasted so good 😁 I was orey "vaaiellam pal" Thank you so much for the detailed explanation and the video, it really helped 🙏

Similarly looked up @oventales for the easiest Ada recipe! It was like a having a wand, swish and there came the perfect textured Ada 🧙

For the dishes I looked up @chitrasfoodbook 's collection of Onam Sadya. There are 4 different menus and had a detailed version of each dish along with the meal pic. Was quite easy to plan and cook up the meal. Thank you so much 💖

Upma and Poha are two breakfast dishes I make regularly as they are quick to prepare with easily available ingredients.

Ingredients:
Semolina(Sooji/rava)-150 gm
Green chilli(finely chopped)-1
Grated ginger-1 inch
Lemon juice-1 tbsp
Chopped onion-1(large)
Chopped tomato-1(large)
Cashew-10 to 12
Curry leaves
Split Black gram(urad dal)-1 tsp
Split bengal gram(chana dal)-1 tsp
Cumin seeds-1/3 tsp
Mustard seeds-1/3 tsp
Red chilli powder-1/4 tsp
Sugar-1/2 tsp
Salt to taste
Cooking oil-3 tbsp
Water

Had early dinner today. Its Pearl millet dosa / Bajra dosa / Kambu dosai with tomato ginger chutney, flax seeds idli podi 😍.


Pearl millet dosa : Wash and soak 1.5 cups of millet, 1.5 tbsp poha, 1/2 tsp methi seeds together for 4 hours.
Wash and soak 1/2 cup round white urad dal for 2 hours.
Grind urad dal to smooth paste adding enough water to thick smooth paste. Collect in a vessel.
Grind millet, poha and methi seeds to smooth paste adding required water.
Mix both the batters well with your hands. Cover and ferment overnight or 12 hours.
The next day, add salt and mix the batter well.
Make thin or thick dosas and enjoy 😊
